Dog Days in Hawaii comes out of some articles the author wrote, on a lark, for The Hawaii Herald, a Japanese American ethnic news journal. It was received very warmly (more so than many of his previous news-y type articles when he was a staff journalist for the paper), and so I decided to share the stories in this blog for people outside of Hawaii.
